On October 28, UNESCO officially announced the appointment of Constanza Smpokou-Constantakopoulou as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Protection and Promotion of Culture.
Greek Language Day International Greek Language Day is celebrated annually on February 9, the day that also honors the memory of the Greek national poet Dionysios Solomos, who wrote Greece’s national anthem, “ Hymn to Liberty.”
This celebration seeks to highlight the Greek language’s fundamental role and defining contribution in the development and establishment of European and world literacy and culture.
Greek remains a language that greatly enriches international scientific discourse. More than any other tongue, it is the language that developed, shaped, and expressed most of the scientific theories, philosophical thoughts, and literature in most of the modern-day languages of the Western world.
The initiative for the launch of an International Greek Language Day was spearheaded since 2014 by Professor Jannis Korinthios, a Diaspora Greek in Italy who is also the author of a dictionary of the ancient Greek language.
